China had its first film in 1905, and now it is the biggest film market in the world. Film can serve as national and culture identity. How film helped forming the idea of China, and keep helping to develop a richer and more diversified modern Chinese culture. This course will examine films made in Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Through watching and discussing about Chinese films, we will learn about the change and the formation of a modern Chinese culture.
