This course surveys painting, sculpture, and architecture in Europe and America from the 15th century to the 1960s.

The emphasis is twofold:

1. Recognizing the visual characteristics of different periods and individual styles through study of major monuments, and

2. Utilizing works of art to better understand the social, cultural, and economic realities of various historical eras.
